Why I started You Have My Ear
I'm an empathic listener: a calm, friendly Scot whose job is to give you my full attention.

Loneliness is now recognised as a global public health issue. The World Health Organization's Commission on Social Connection estimates that around 1 in 6 people worldwide are affected by it. I created You Have My Ear so that anyone who needs someone to talk to can book a real person, at a time that suits them.

I'm not a therapist and I don't diagnose. I simply offer a calm confidential space where you can speak freely and find some human connection.
My life journey has been a combination of: work in government project management roles; study in history, IT and marketing; and travel (including from Perth Scotland to Perth Australia via land and sea). Communication, and human connection, have guided me on that journey.

The Values Behind You Have My Ear
Every conversation is guided by three simple values that have shaped both my life and my work.
Listening
What I enjoy most about meeting new people is listening to their stories and getting to know their character.

Communication and listening skills have been major assets in my working life. Listening in particular, helped me get many projects over the line, and my career taught me the value of honest and sensitive conversations.
Now I'm using these same skills to help lonely people who are struggling, rediscover human connection.
Sociability
Growing up, my life was very social. I loved spending time with friends at the pub, in cafés, on day trips and adventures. At university and through travel, I met people from all walks of life.
These days, people live more isolated lives because of changing society and technology.
I want to help people feeling lonely find and experience the human connection, which brings so much wellbeing, meaning and joy to our lives.
Trust
During my time in the Scottish Government, I worked with confidential information and sensitive personal records. Trust, discretion and respecting people's privacy were essential to everything I did. I learnt trust isn't built through promises, but by consistently respecting people's privacy and treating sensitive information with care.

I love life, and have many interests including travel, running, walking, sport, history, books, classic film and TV. No matter what your interests or circumstances I'll be interested in what you have to say.
